As a member of the National Youth Choir, you can take advantage of exciting opportunities to develop your skills as part of the annual programme and our organisation as a whole.

National Youth Voices

National Youth Voices is a flexible pool of singers drawn from National Youth Choir (18-25 Years), Emerging Professional Artists and recent alumni. They are invited to take part in exciting high-profile opportunities at a professional level, such as BBC Proms performances and projects with the BBC Singers. All members of National Youth Choir (18-25 Years) will be offered a chance to audition for National Youth Voices as part of their standard choir activities.

The National Youth Voices pool will include approximately 70 singers, with performances likely to require 16-24 singers, depending on the type of performance. Each place will be awarded for 2 years, with the possibility of re-auditioning for eligible singers. We reserve the right to re-audition on a yearly basis. This will include re-auditioning anyone who has not taken part in National Youth Voices activity in the preceding year.

National Youth Voices will be a flexible ensemble, and singers may be called on for availability throughout the year; there is no set programme of activity. Members will have travel and subsistence paid for when performing with National Youth Voices.

Section Leaders

National Youth Choir Members have the opportunity to apply to be a Section Leader for their voice section. Potential applicants will be asked to apply for the role and will go through a short audition process with the Principal Conductor. The role of the Section Leader is to assist their voice section in the learning of the music during projects, deliver warm-ups and monitor their section’s progress. Section Leaders will also receive a discount off the NYC annual programme fees.

Member Representatives

Our four Member Reps (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) are chosen annually and voted for by our members; their role involves canvassing for opinion and providing feedback to the National Youth Choir staff team, attending staff and board meetings, and being a “member voice” for the whole choir.

Social Representatives

The activities encourage our members to get to know each other better and form lifelong friendships. The role requires planning prior to each project and a small budget is considered for worthy activities. To get involved in our social activities, you must be recommended by our current social team.
