No young person should be prevented from being a part of the National Youth Choir because of financial barriers.

We fundraise as a charity so that we can offer Financial Assistance to singers who may otherwise not be able to take part in National Youth Choir activities.

We offer different levels of financial assistance to National Youth Choir members based on their circumstances. Financial assistance can cover up to 100% of all participation costs, including things like course fees, travel expenses and concert tickets for singers' families.

What level of financial assistance could I get?

The level of financial assistance we are able to offer you depends primarily on your yearly income.

  • For young singers who are financially dependent, we look at their family household income. Typically, we offer Financial Assistance to families whose total household income is less than £70,000 per year. Families with lower incomes will be offered more support on a sliding scale. For example, if your household income is £40,000 we can offer you around 50% off your singer’s participation costs.
  • For young singers who are financially independent, we look at the singers' income and other personal circumstances.

Use our eligibility checker to find out whether your singer is 'dependent' or 'independent', and see what percentage of financial assistance we might be able to offer them.

Check your eligibility

We know that income doesn't tell the whole story. We offer extra support to singers with exceptional circumstances or additional financial burdens which might not be reflected in their income. If you think this applies to you, we recommend that you apply for Financial Assistance, and include supporting information about your situation in your application.

How do I apply for financial assistance?

We will prompt new and existing members to apply for or renew their financial assistance each year. Usually this will happen just after auditions for each choir. For example, members aged 18-25 will be prompted around June/July, members aged 9-18 will be prompted in December/January. You do not need to apply for Financial Assistance before you have auditioned to join National Youth Choir.

Once we have prompted you to apply, we will give you an application deadline and direct you to our online application form. If your singer is 'dependent' then a parent or guardian should complete the form on their behalf. If the singer is 'independent' then the singer should complete the form themselves.
