National Youth Choir Recordings Celebrates 10 Years!

October 2025 marks 10 years since National Youth Choir Recording's first releases, Agincourt Song and Voices for Today. To celebrate, we've created a short documentary featuring singers, composers and collaborators telling the story of our recording label and what it means to them.

National Youth Choir Recordings was established in 2015. It shows the full breadth of music sung by the UK's finest young singers aged 9-25 as well as our Fellowship Ensemble and alumni.

A Red, Red Rose

James Mulholland

National Youth Boys' Choir of Great Britain
Andy McTaggart (conductor)
Adam Hope (piano)

Released 25 January 2024
NYCR-0113(A)

This piece is a setting of a beautiful poem by Robert Burns, which describes the narrator's deep and endless love - beautiful, vivid, and fresh as a flower that has just recently bloomed. The music reflects this perfectly, capturing the romance of the text, as well as the tragedy of the lover's death.

This setting, composed by American composer James Mulholland for lower voices and piano, allows the changing voices of the National Youth Boys Choir (9-15 years) to explore serene harmonies and heartfelt melodies, creating their own sensitive rendition of these well-known words.
