National Youth Choir Alumni

Welcome to the National Youth Choir Alumni community!

If you are a former member of any National Youth Choir ensemble or emerging professional artist programme, then you still part of our National Youth Choir family! We’d love you to stay connected to our work and the ever-growing community of talented National Youth Choir graduates across the UK and abroad. Whether you’ve recently been a member or were involved back in the early years – you are very welcome.

We are so proud that our alumni have gone on to achieve such wonderful things. National Youth Choir alumni are graduates from across the choir’s 40-year history, including doctors, nurses, teachers, conductors, CEOs as well as professional singers from The Swingles, BBC Singers, The Sixteen, Tenebrae, Gabrieli Consort, Monteverdi Choir, Glyndebourne, Scottish Opera and Royal Opera House Choruses and come together from as far afield as America, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Germany.

Whatever your journey, we’d love each and every one of you to stay in touch.

There are a number of ways you can choose to get involved. To be part of our supportive online network, join our Alumni Facebook Group; come together to sing with other alumnus by taking part in concerts and events or be part of the National Youth Choir's future by getting involved in fundraising initiatives to support more young people to be part of its life-changing programmes.

Attention NYCGB Alumni! Can you help us to

CELEBRATE!

40 Years of National Youth Choirs of Great Britain
Tuesday 11 April 2023 at 7.30pm
Royal Albert Hall, London

40 years in the making, it's time to celebrate everything that's wonderful about National Youth Choirs of Great Britain! This special evening at the spectacular Royal Albert Hall will feature over 1,000 singers, fabulous music and a few surprises - and as a former member of NYCGB we'd love you to join us.

What Alumni will be singing...
Shenandoah (live and digital). This NYCGB classic will be the NYCGB Alumni Spotlight piece. In the concert all Alumni who are in the audience will be singing this piece and will come onto the stage to perform, conducted by Will Dawes. At a certain point in the piece the large screen in front of the organ will be showing the ‘lockdown Shenandoah’ video, augmenting the live performance.
NYCGB40 New Commission (live and digital) by Ben Parry with text by Anoushka Lucas (writer, singer, actress and star of Oklahoma! at the Young Vic that’s soon to transfer to the West End). This will be the finale of the entire evening. Every area of our organisation is involved in this piece. There will be specific bespoke vocal lines for NYCGB Alumni. Bespoke learning aids will be available through the Stay at Home Choir digital platform. For those unable to attend in person at the Royal Albert Hall, there will be the opportunity to submit digitally and still become part of the performance on the night!

Rehearsal and online resources...
NYCGB Alumni will need to be available to rehearse on the afternoon of the concert (Tuesday 11th April) at the Royal Albert Hall, joining other NYCGB Choirs.
Online resources are now available from Stay At Home Choir to support you learning your vocal part for the new NYCGB40 commission!

Take part from anywhere in the world...
In order to get all alumni involved in our 40th celebrations, NYCGB have partnered with the incredible Stay at Home Choir, which is run by Tori Longdon and Jamie Wright (both NYCGB Alumni) to create a digital mega choir of NYCGB Alumni for the big screen.
For those unable to attend in person at the Royal Albert Hall, there is now the opportunity to submit digitally (audio and video) and still become part of the performance on the night! Your voice will be a crucial part of the performance and your video will be projected onto the large screen above the stage along with your NYCGB alumni colleagues. Getting involved with One long song is completely free!
  • Wednesday 1st March window for digital (audio and video) submissions via the Stay at Home Choir platform is OPEN.
  • Wednesday 8th March (midnight) window for digital (audio and video) submissions will CLOSE. Please note due to the turnaround of the digital assets we will not be able to extend this deadline.

Ticketing information...

Special areas of the auditorium had been held off exclusively for Alumni to purchase tickets for themselves, their family and friends. These include the Front Arena and some seats in Area G of the Stalls (ends of tiered rows Stage Right). Alumni had exclusive access to these tickets until 31st January 2023 and they are now on sale publicly.

Don't worry if you missed out on the priority booking period, you can still book tickets in the Front Arena or Area G of the Stalls (ends of tiered rows Stage Right) to take part.
