Top tips for your next singing audition Preparing for a singing audition? Here are some tips from National Youth Choir (18-25 Years) singers and our Vocal Coach in Residence Pamela Hay for how to overcome those nerves and give your best performance. Remember why we sing: it's for self expression! - Choose a song you love to sing and think about the words and the emotions so you can convey the song's meaning while you sing it. You and your panellists will have a lot more fun if you're committed to telling the story of your song. Keep a sense of playfulness - Finding a sense of play while you sing will help you come across as someone who is really confident and in charge of what they are doing. If you feel nervous, don't blame yourself - Nerves are a natural part of life, and if you're feeling them it means your body is working very well and your autonomic nervous system is doing it's thing. Deactivate your fight-or-flight response by doing three long exhales in a row and you will feel so much more calm. Hydrate and rest - Drink plenty of water 3-4 hours before you have to sing, and get a good night's sleep the night before.
