A year ago, extraordinary singer Ben Thapa, sadly died at the age of 42. Ben made a huge impact as a member of the National Youth Choir in the early 2000s and went on to have a brilliant singing career, rising to fame on the first series of X Factor in group G4, and later working with Scottish Opera, Buxton Festival, Royal Opera and more.

Moved by memories of games of 'One-Hand Wonder', pitch-perfect tuning and valiant efforts section leading a motley crew of tenors, a team of alumni wanted to honour Ben's legacy by creating the Ben Thapa Memorial Fund.

All the money raising towards this fund will go directly to disadvantaged young singers who require financial assistance in order to participate in incredible music-making opportunities.

If you want to show your support to Ben and his family, and share joy of singing with future generations, you can make a one-off donation now or pledge to raise money for the fund through your own fundraising activity.

The Alumni Champions Committee have been working hard behind the scenes. We wanted to find the best way to honour the memory of wonderful singer and supporter of National Youth Choir, Ben Thapa. This fund is a way to pay tribute to Ben's memory whilst supporting the next generation of singers. We hope this will bring the joy of singing to more individuals who otherwise couldn't afford it.
